Fast Food – Fat Kid!
The way we live our lives today, for most of us dining out is a frequent occurrence. And in today’s economic crisis, we are all trying to save money. The result is that we make far too many visits to Fat Food Restaurants (Oops, I mean “Fast Food Restaurants”). And what chance do our kids have when they grow up eating this stuff.
Health and fitness is also very much in our consciousness these days. We are constantly berated with lists of “good foods” and “bad foods.”
Can you see the obvious conflict – restaurant meals (especially fast food restaurants) versus our desire to be fit and healthy. Yes, restaurant eating, and especially the fast food type, is a major obstacle to our health and fitness goals.
Have you ever noticed that people who travel a lot tend to be, shall we say, “gravity challenged?” Most likely that is directly attributable to the fact that those people find it necessary to eat out, to eat inexpensively and to eat quickly – truly a recipe for weight loss disaster.
Even if you do eat at restaurants a lot, you are not condemned to be overweight as a consequence. There are three important things that you can pay attention to (and avoid) if you want to stay fit:
- Stay away from deep fried foods. If it’s been dipped in boiling trans-fats, take a pass.
- Don’t consume refined starchy foods. Leave the French fries for the fat person you don’t want to be.
- Go easy on the sugary foods such as sodas, juices, cookies, brownies, etc.
By just being a bit mindful of what you are consuming and by avoiding the 3 diet assassins mentioned above, you will be eliminating the fast foods that can do the most damage to your health and fitness goals.
For example, did you know that just by substituting a vegetable for the chips or fries that typically come with a fast food meal, and by drinking water or unsweetened tea instead of that “Big Sipper” soda, you can reduce your calories by 400 to 900 calories per meal, depending on the drink and fries portion sizes?
So if you’re constantly complaining because you can’t lose weight, pay attention to where, and what, you are eating. By just making a couple of simple changes, you may find that the results remarkable where your weight loss program is concerned. And if you have children, pay attention to what they are eating too.
